1. How did you first come to join Fit4Mom? When we moved to a new house in our neighborhood in 2018, I met a bunch of new friends who were Fit4Mom regulars and met Nikki Brown, who was a F4M instructor. I tagged along to a class (a traveling Boost class with Nikki) and loved the challenge and variety in the workout. I was a regular after that.
2. How long / what classes do you teach? I'm certified to teach Boost and Bodywell. I started teaching Boost in spring of 2021 when we were still pretty limited by the COVID pandemic. Becoming an instructor was a really wonderful outlet for me and a connection to community and other women. It's hard to believe it's been 3 years!
3. What do you love the most about being part of the Fit4Mom Community? I love the sense of community and the relationships that I've formed through F4M. These are women that I might not know otherwise-- we're all different ages, live and work in different areas, have kids at different ages-- but we all come together over a common love of exercise and we talk about so much and give each other support and new perspectives we might not get otherwise. We could all do the workouts on our own, but as one F4M member said "It's just not the same".
4. What would you say to someone who is hesitant to check out our classes? My best advice is to just sign up and come once. I think so much of trying something new is just getting over the anticipation/fear of the unknown hump! Once you're there you'll see that there are so many other women like you and we have no expectations or requirements of you! You can just come and do what works for you.
5. What's your favorite Chapel Hill/Carrboro restaurant/eatery and what's your favorite thing to get there?
It's hard to choose, but I think my favorite place is Venable in Carrboro. I love the comfortable atmosphere, the food is delicious, and they have a great drink selection. It's hard to choose a favorite thing to get there-- it might be a tie between the Vegetable Tamale and the Bahn Mi Sandwich with soy ginger green beans! I also LOVE it when they have Bells Two Hearted beer on draft and serve it out of a frosty mug.
6. Would you prefer a relaxing vacation or an action packed vacation?
I'd probably prefer mostly relaxing with a little bit of action. If I had to choose between the two, I think I would choose relaxing. Although I am one of those people who still likes to exercise on vacation! Full days of doing whatever you feel like are the ultimate in indulgence to me, and for me that always includes exercise with a heavy dose of relaxing--preferably somewhere warm and secluded.
7. I'm happiest when...
Everyone close to me is happy and relaxed and I have nothing on my "to do" or "to worry about" list!
8. One more interesting fact we don't know about you.
I studied abroad in Australia in undergrad and it's still one of my favorite places in the world. I hope to take a family trip there and introduce my kids to the land down under!
