Meet Lauren, Our June Mama of the Month

1. Where are you from originally?

I grew up in Charlotte.

2. When did you join FIT4MOM?

I joined F4M when my daughter, Olivia, was about 6 months old. That was about 10 years ago.

3. What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM?

I love getting my butt kicked while enjoying the camaraderie.

4. What do you currently do?

I am a Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist. I have a private practice in Carrboro, giving a few massages a week but mostly doing individual therapy with adults.

5. Share your thoughts on the concept of “it takes a village” – is it important for moms to join a village?

Yes to the importance of a village. I know this professionally- so much coming out about the importance of connection- and personally- you just have to figure out how much and who works for you as an individual.

6. What is your favorite beverage?

My happy juice in the morning is very very strong black tea with milk and honey. I have also been known to like very strong margaritas, although I just hit the 50 mark and alcohol definitely takes more of a toll now.

7. What is your favorite dessert?

Anything chocolate

8. You are given 4 hours to yourself, what would you do?

Go slow. Grab a drink and a book and hang on my back deck.

9. My husband and I used to backpack a lot before kid. I would love to go backpacking in Europe. The kind where you can hike between castle and stay in an actual bed and shower at night.

10. How did becoming a mother change you?

My priorities have shifted quite a bit since having Olivia. What she needs takes up much of my time and energy but I will also say that the importance of taking care of myself also seems maybe even more important now, as I want to grow old and see who she becomes.

11. I am happiest when.

I am happiest when I am with family and friends someplace outdoors having fun.
